History of Beili Glas

The kitchen was originally a blacksmith’s and the rings can be found in the walls outside where the horses were tied up to be shod. At the time the only motive power in the valley was man and his animals and there were a number of blacksmiths operating locally. More recently, in 1951, locally born author Richard Vaughan lived at Beili Glas where he wrote his first novel ‘Moulded in Earth’. His story, about two feuding farming families in the valley, was produced as a television drama series in 1965 by the BBC. A number of his relatives still live nearby.

In 2008 the cottage was completely refurbished particularly for cottage holidays with new floors and ceilings, new electrical wiring, plumbing and the addition of central heating. It is one of a pair of cottages on a quiet single-track road in the heart of the national park and has stunning uninterrupted views of the mountains and farmland.
